TOMA is a motion picture editing company helmed by Luis Alvarez y Alvarez.

Luis has an extensive career as a film editor with a diverse body of work encompassing feature films, television, documentaries, animation and the art world.
He started his editing career at Pixar Animation Studios, working on such lauded films as Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. Since then, his feature film credits include the artist Matthew Barney’s RIVER OF FUNDAMENT and DRAWING RESTRAINT 9, Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental documentary The 11th HOUR, and Larry Charles and Bob Dylan’s cult film MASKED AND ANONYMOUS, which was a collaboration with Academy Award winning film editor Pietro Scalia.

Recent projects edited by Luis include BREAKIN’ON THE ONE, directed by Jams&Bash, LA GUERRA CIVIL (DAZN), directed by Eva Longoria, Sundance 2021 Premiere ; SIEMPRE, LUIS (HBO) Sundance 2020 Premiere.

TOMA’S clients include HBO, ESPN FILMS, NETFLIX, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, VICE, THE NEW YORK TIMES, RADICAL MEDIA, JIGSAW PRODUCTIONS, DAZN and SOTHEBYS.

Luis was born in Mexico City and is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Interactive Telecommunications Program. He has taught film editing in the MFA program of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Film Department. He is bilingual (Spanish and English) and is available to edit in New York City and other locations if needed.
